ReplyDeleteAllen -- Thanks for your comment! I do know that a certain percentage of the produce is "minimally-treated" etc., but that just doesn't sound as sexy as "all organic all the time" now, does it?

Quite an impressive quantity of fresh, unprepared vegetables.
ReplyDeleteI though that most people in the US bought only ready to eat food.
One of my friend had to stay in the States a couple of years for his job.
His wife, familiar with French open-air markets, was very sad of the very few fresh vegetables she could find.
Once she was lucky to find leeks on sale, she bough "tons" of them and was asked by the person in charge of this department : " Excuse me Madam, could you tell me what you will do with those leeks ? I've been asked to sell them but I absolutely don't know how to cook them.
But it was 10 years ago in a small town somewhere in Midwest.
NY Magazine just did an interesting article on the Park Slope Food Coop and one of the farmers who supply the produce.
