broadway

Unfortunately, more than half of these shows
are no longer running. I get it, though—
these days, it's hard to afford even the
half-price tkts. Sad, huh?

  1. Gorgeous photo, Alexa. Sad story, though ...

  2. I adore musicals and have seen most of the ones advertised in that board. My favourite is probably Hairspray but I also loved Wicked.

  3. Yes, my NY friend also says that she has a hard time finding reasonable tickets. Anyway, I look forward to coming to NY in June and at least admiring the marquees.

  4. Great photo (because we can get a feeling of New York as the premier theater town in our United States). I hope that what was once called The Great White Way isn't coming to this. Come to think about it, that may be the view from those windows behind the billboards.

  5. OK. Everyone is out of this "room" now and on to other fascinating Alexa photos. My first impression on seeing this evocative Broadway-play shot of yours is that: This photo kind of reminds me of a low-key Tokyo Kabukicho. (Only what is being advertised on the billboards in the link are not theatrical productions as we know them, but host clubs. Let's just say that the hosts' performances are geared for tiny, high-paying audiences. Why so high paying? Because the hosts make those few women in their audience—across the table and between the drinks or next to them on the leather sofas through the tobacco smoke—feel special. They are most talented at this. I don't know whether to say that I lost a girlfriend to some of these guys or that they helped get me out of a two-year relationship that was doomed from the beginning).

I wonder how these businesses are faring now that Japan's economy is tanking as badly as any. Perhaps better than we would imagine. Out in the boonies this past November the biggest, boomingest businesses were pachinko parlors, all over the place.

  6. TG, I'm sorry to hear that. It really must have hurt, even if you ended up deciding it was for the best {which I hope you did}.
