and she's still cute!

This is my mother, who turned 89 this
past week. We had a little birthday
dinner last night at her favorite
restaurant.  She's a real inspiration—
the woman still works (and the place
would fall apart w/o her)!
This shot was actually taken last
Thanksgiving, which explains the
pilgrim earrings.  (They belonged to
someone dear to us all, and now my
mother wears them every year, to
keep our friend with us in spirit.)

  1. I'm quite smitten by your mom's smile. The color and texture of that cable-knit sweater is quite nice too. Might I wish her, belatedly but as heart-felt as a stranger can get, many happy returns on this her birthday week?

At least some of that twinkle in her eyes must surely be pride in her daughter. Either that or she had just returned from one of your brother's Lone Sharks gigs.

  2. "and they're both cute!"

Your mum looks sparky and as sharp as ... just as I'm sure you'll look at her age, too! She's petite as well? I can't quite make out the pilgrim earrings but it's a beautiful sentiment, to continue wearing them for someone dear who's gone. Happy birthday, Alexa's mum!

Oh look, Tall Gary's arrived just ahead of me - to be expected, since he's twice our height.

  5. I'm 21 years younger than she, and I don't do as well, I think. More power to her!

    Is that you with her?

  6. Thanks, guys! I'll be passing your good wishes along to my mom.
TG -- actually, bro Chris makes her CDs of his weekly jazz gigs (done strictly for fun).
Shell -- she used to be taller than I am (for that matter, so did I), but none of us ever gets taller—I'm guessing 5', if that, at this point.
    kenju -- yup, that's me.
